Murmuration

Murmuration is a six-and-a-half-minute piece for voice and sample swarms. The harmony is made of clusters, many voices a semitone apart sounding at once, and the whole mass surges and breathes two to four times a second, which is how fast real swarms pulse. Every sound comes from a sample. The mix is binaural: on headphones the swarm moves around the listener, voices circle behind the head, shimmer hangs above, and the sung line stays in front.
