Voice Studies for Empty Rooms

Voice Studies for Empty Rooms is seven studies in which my voice does not express, it measures. It sets the air of a room moving and waits for what comes back. Vocal fragments, sustained tones, fluorescent hum and low-frequency pressure lead from physical rooms into remembered ones, and what survives of a crowd is pressure felt in the chest rather than heard. The studies belong to the lineage of Ferrari, Oliveros, Radigue and Monk.

The films survey a recording chamber, a corridor, an electrical hall, a pressure chamber, a deserted club at dawn, a row of closed doors and a room that gradually loses its walls. No one is seen singing; slow movement and material detail let the spaces carry the presence. The music was made for four channels, and the films carry the stereo masters.
