A Blanket for Two

A Blanket for Two is a short dance film — five minutes and three quarters — made in 2020 with the Istanbul video artist Ufuk Şenel, for which I composed and produced the music. It was released online during the first lockdown.

The image is two dancers under one blanket in a small apartment: the whole world reduced to a single piece of cloth and the two bodies negotiating it. The music is made the same way — from very little. A field recording of the room, a hummed melody, the rustle of fabric close to a microphone, a slow pulse like a radiator. The humming is layered into a small choir, the fabric into a rhythm, and the piece swells, once, into something almost orchestral before folding itself back up into the room tone it started from.

It is a piece about intimacy under constraint, which was, that spring, the only kind there was.
